We did it. I mean, we DID it. Linnea and I went to a barbecue party last night, and we did it. Okay, I guess you’re wondering what the heck I’m talking about. If you know Linnea and I, you know that every Monday we start a new weight watchers diet. And just about every week, we’re not on that diet anymore by Thursday or Friday the latest. About half of those times, it’s due to going to dinner with people. Other times we go to a restaurant to celebrate something (the reasons start to get suspicious because we’re addicted to food). The rest of the time we just convince ourselves to eat because we jointly had bad days or something. This Monday started the same, but then we did it (well, we DIDN’T do what I was just talking about)!

Last night Linnea and I attended a barbecue party with a bunch of friends. Did I mention we did it? What did we do? We didn’t break our diet! At a barbecue. A barbecue with sausage, pulled pork, and the softest M&M sugar cookies I’ve ever seen. You can say it was quite a feat.

Like. A. Huge. Feat.

We haven’t done something like this all summer long, and we certainly had plenty of opportunities. We only had 1 day notice too. Luckily, for some odd reason, we were more determined this time. The night before we went to Sam’s Club and bought a big pack of boneless/skinless chicken breasts, and marinated them in a really yummy Italian marinade (pack of Italian dressing seasoning, lemon juice, oil). Everyone raved about the marinade. We raved because we didn’t cheat. I ate two grilled chicken sandwiches (on wheat rolls) with some green pepper, grapes, and two Coors Lights. That was a total of 13 WW points. I had 13 WW points left for Friday when we showed up to the barbecue. That’s right. Success. Luckily, I also still had a bunch of flex points (35 points to use whenever during the week) so I even ate an ice cream (light) sundae when I got home.

This was so huge I’ll probably get back on the Wii Fit soon. I’ll keep you posted.

I’m still here. I’ve been spending most of my free “internet” time working with fatsoforum.com, making little modifications, managing new users, etc. I just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve been doing pretty good on the diet. I cheated on Tuesday because Linnea cheated. She had her re-branding party at work (she led the re-branding), so she ate the yucky catered food. Anyway, I was doing good all day until I got jealous, so we got a take-home frozen Papa Del’s deep dish (if you’re not from Champaign, think almost-Giordano’s).

Yesterday I avoided a HUGE temptation. Linnea and I met at TGI Friday’s for lunch, because I really didn’t want to get Subway. I’m kind of Subway Clubbed out. Anyway, I really wanted a burger when I got there (with fries, of course). Instead I stayed strong and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, with brocolli. I don’t think I’ve ever ordered brocolli at a restaurant before. It sucked, but whatever, I didn’t cheat, and that’s what’s important.

The scale said I lost 4.2 pounds, and I didn’t even drop the kids at the pool yet (as my friend Adam would say)! It might be slightly flukey, but it makes me feel great about averting the code red last night. I had scrambled eggs instead of burger/fries. Only used 3 flex points. Now, I just have to stay strong this weekend, we’re going back home so Linnea can go to a bridal shower, and I’m sure there’ll be good (well, bad) food and cookies to eat.

Also, as an update, I bought the domain name “fatsoforum.com” this morning, so that’s exciting. I’m still debating whether I want to start it right now with a basic theme or take some time and modify it first. I’m also flirting with the idea of having a separate homepage rather than just the forum. The homepage could have links to everyone’s personal sites. Any thoughts?

Not to mention she’s going back out to lunch with a friend tomorrow, and a bridal shower on Saturday. Man, that really makes me feel like a schmuck. I’m so hungry right now. Sooooo hungry. We don’t even know what we’re having for dinner. This is a code red! I just want to go to Chili’s or something. I repeat, CODE RED! Somebody better make me a healthy dinner soon or I’m getting a burger (and fries).

Weighed myself this morning to kick-off the public accountability weight loss plan. I’ll be weighing myself once a week or more, which you can track at daytum.com/diberard. I think I’m going to start using tags so that I can have multiple topics per post, rather than limiting myself with the categories. I also have one person “considering” joining me in my quest. I’m sure Linnea would join too. If I get one or two more interests, I’ll probably figure out how to start a forum on this site, and then set everyone up with their own blogs too. I’m open to suggestion on the format. Ok, so to the business:

Starting Weight: 262.8 lbs*
*This is the fattest I’ve ever been, ouch. I’ve passed my previous high score by 1.8 lbs, so it’s not so bad, but considering I was around 235 lbs 2.5 years ago, it sucks.

Goals: My goals need to be split up because I plan on losing a lot of weight. I think the usual is a 10% weight loss, which would put me at about 235 lbs again. This is a nice number so:
Goal 1: 235 lbs
Goal 2: 215 lbs
Goal 3: 200 lbs (optional)

I’ll post when I update my numbers, work out, or cheat. Don’t look for a work out today, I’m super busy and we went on walks 3 days in a row this weekend. I’ll also be posting random stuff about how I’m doing, what’s tempting me (first one below), advice, etc. You can look for all these topics in the tags list. Enjoy!

First temptation: Of course, the very first thing I plan to eat on my diet has to tempt me. I went to pour some corn pops for breakfast, and it just so happened the awesome star trek badge was near the top, so it came out, but it forced a ton of pops with it. I’m talking about 2-3 times the amount I wanted to eat (1 serving ~1 cup, w/ milk = 3pts). I stayed strong and put the extra back.

First day strategy: I’m working from home today because I have no class or meetings. This can lead to trouble because I have constant access to food. I started the day by pushing back my cereal time to after I dropped Louis off at daycare, hoping that will help me until lunch, or even have a later lunch. That would help me avoid afternoon snacks, and be amazing. We’ll see how it goes, I only get 30 points.
