I can’t believe what just happened. I just worked out 3 days in a row. Not to mention I lost another 1.8 lbs thanks to the first two workout days. I pretty much rock and a half. You know what else rocks? New IMPE. I won’t call it ARC because that sounds more stupid when you pronounce the acronym, and using the actual name is too long, not to mention I’m not 100% sure what it is. That place is amazing. It was my first non-basketball visit, upon which I learned that EVERY cardio machine has cable TV. Yeah, that’s what I said. I stepped up on the elliptical on Thursday and rather than work out, I watched SportsCenter and burned 375 calories. It was rather exciting because they were talking about the possible Peavy to the White Sox trade (which never happened, bummer).
OK, back to me, because don’t forget, I rock and a half. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical before lunch on Thursday, followed up by some Mexican for lunch. That was Linnea’s fault. I didn’t feel bad, even after the unnecessary chips ‘n salsa and Corona Light, because I worked out. Then, Friday afternoon I played basketball. Basketball has to be the most energy consuming thing I do. It’s like my arms have liquid sleeves on them (I know, it’s gross, but it allows me to slip off my defender and rock and a half the basket with my impecable mid-range touch). THEN, I golfed 9 holes this morning. Not only did I golf these holes, but I walked them, carrying my quite heavy golf bag. I used to walk all the time, which was never a problem. The 3 workouts in a row must have done me in because I was seriously dragging out there. I started out playing really well (for me, bogey golf), but I got so worn out I quintuple bogeyed a hole (3 shots in the same bunker). Ouch. Definitely didn’t rock and a half that. Anyway, I scored a free brat (wasn’t cheating due to my extra WW points for working out), but then Linnea and I picked up a “take and bake” pizza from Sam’s Club, so we cheated after all today. Oh well. I’m not too worried about it since the only cheating we did was the pizza for dinner. Everything else was within the usual points.
Finally, to wrap up with some business. It has come to my attention that certain people think they shouldn’t sign up for fatsoforum.com because they’re not a fatso. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, non-fatsos are extremely important to the success of all the fatsos, so please register and post something!!!

Man, I really love adding ‘…’ after all my titles. So suspenseful… Anyway, I mowed the lawn again today. I’m totally counting it toward my workouts, deal with it. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually start using exercise as a workout, what a concept. I have no more excuses, this past semester was really rough, but it’s over with now and I have time to actually go work out during the day. One of these days… Sorry, I keep …ing. It must be annoying… Oh well…
Please sign up for my forum, I need help not cheating! Linnea and I went to Chili’s last night. While we did cheat, we only half-cheated, which is a big step for us eating out. We both got something with grilled chicken, but then one of us got fries and the other corn as a side, and we split them. Oh, and Louis ate some fries too! BTW, if you know me and don’t have access to Louis’ blog (and would like it…) let me know.

Played basketball today. 2 hours of full-court. You could say I got a good workout. Weight Watchers says I get to add 13 points today. I’m not going to eat them all, since I cheated yesterday (below), but I’m definitely not measuring my ice cream tonight!
Do you like how I waited until I could talk about working out before mentioning how I cheated yesterday? It was a special occasion, so it wasn’t like I just cheated out of the blue. A few of us in the lab were helping a Chinese visitor (agricultural engineer) perform some apple picking experiments, so he took us out for a Chinese lunch. You could say we ordered A LOT of stuff, and I felt like trying it all since I’d only had one of the dishes before (besides the rice…). Once I tried it all I knew I was already in trouble, so I just didn’t worry about it anymore. Oh well. I worked out today.
Forum coming soon!

I did it. I cheated. I didn’t even last 1 week. I just couldn’t do it. We’re home visiting family, so the dinner we had wasn’t exactly #ImAFatso friendly. For those who don’t know, and don’t use twitter, the “#” is something people use to categorize their updates so others can search on that topic. I totally invented #ImAFatso! Back to me the cheater. We had bbq chicken (w/ skin) and ribs. I didn’t do too bad, honestly. I had 1 chicken breast, 2 ribs and salad. The problem was the chicken skin, and the oil I used in my salad dressing. I also snacked on some almonds before dinner. Oops. Oh yeah, and I had a hoho.
I know, it sounds really bad, but honeslty, if I wasn’t on my diet and feeling really bad about eating all that, I would have eaten A LOT more ribs, and more almonds, and more hohos. I thought I handeled the situation decently well. I still cheated less than Linnea yesterday
. I actually still had 23 of my 35 weekly flex points left as of yesterday, so if I actually counted everything I’d probably be fine right now. Unfortunately, we’re going to brunch with Linnea’s grandma. Ouch. That’s gonna hurt. She’s making us brunch, so I can’t exactly pick a healthy option on the menu. Oh well, it’s still a MUCH better week than previous ones.
I’m just waiting for fatsoforum.com to “propogate” through the net so that it actually works, then my awesome fatso forum will be up and running! I can’t wait, it was my fear of posting this that kept me from doing worse yesterday, so my whole public accountability strategy has worked so far!

Guess who went out to lunch with work (including pita bread and several french fries) and then proceeded to eat brownie bites? LINNEA! She’s a CHEATER! Not to mention she’s going back out to lunch with a friend tomorrow, and a bridal shower on Saturday. Man, that really makes me feel like a schmuck. I’m so hungry right now. Sooooo hungry. We don’t even know what we’re having for dinner. This is a code red! I just want to go to Chili’s or something. I repeat, CODE RED! Somebody better make me a healthy dinner soon or I’m getting a burger (and fries).

It’s not really day 3 since yesterday was our scheduled “don’t count” day. I didn’t splurge, which is good. I have some advice about cheating days below. Today is the make or break day of the week. It’s hump day, and I didn’t keep track of points yesterday. We’ll see how today goes. I don’t have a weight update because I haven’t weighed myself yet today. Deep stuff huh?
I’ve got 5 people intereseted in starting a public accountability weight loss forum with me. 5 more and we’re in business. I’d start it right now, but my wife won’t let me buy the domain name for it until 10 people have expressed interest. So fellow fatsos, express interest! Anyway, to the business:
Advice: Everyone goes off their diet for one reason or another. When I’m being serious about it, my only reasons are when we have dinner events with friends. I’d say only about 1 in 4 times we actually count points. Otherwise I pretend beer is zero points (it’s 3, 2 for lite). When I’m not being serious about it a high stress day will make me convince Linnea we need to eat out. Another big reason is we didn’t take anything out for dinner.
So, to the actual advice. If you go off your diet, only do it for one day. We would usually just neglect the rest of the week. This leads to splurging and trying to “eat it while I can,” before the new week of dieting begins. DON’T DO IT! We’ve also found that making a weekly dinner menu virtually eliminates the “what should we have? oh, let’s go out” aspect.

Day one went as I expected. When I thought about food, I wanted it, whether I was full or not. The idea of knowing you can only have so much just makes me want it more. Oh well, like my first post title says, I’m addicted to food. It just tastes so good. While I normally won’t give “updates” on a daily basis, I decided that, since I just started, I would anyway. Overall, day one was a success, I only used one of my flex points. As a recap, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, the weight watchers points system (well, the old one if it’s changed) gives you a certain number of daily points based on your weight and gender (30 in my case), and 35 weekly “flex” points. These points are based on calorie, fat and fiber content. So to the update…
Weight loss: 2.0 lbs. I’m not marking this at daytum.com/diberard, because I fluctuate by more than 5 pounds throughout the day. Granted, both weigh-ins were in the morning, but I’m only showing this to brag. It’s only been a day and that could swing back the other way tomorrow.
Cheating?: Technically, I had a “pinch” of shredded cheddar that I didn’t count. It’s a wash because I never exactly measure all my servings when I’m following WW anyway, but it still works (assuming I stick to it for more than 1 week).
Today will be our designated cheating day, we have our bi-weekly bible study/dinner. We’ll count 5 flex (35/7 days), and be done with it.
Advice: (pertaining to the above statement) I’ve actually heard though, that diets are MUCH more effective if you have one day where you don’t calorie count. Otherwise, your metabolism adjusts to the lower calorie intake and you burn less.
Forum anybody?: So I learned there is a really cool domain name I would use if this “public-accountability” weight loss system picks up interest. Anyway, please email me (or comment) your interest if you think you’d post either weight loss stories, struggles, advice, etc. Since I’m poor, I’ll need some “donors” to buy the domain (it’s only $10/yr), but then I bet if I threw Google’s Adsense on it we’d recoup the cost. Let me know, I think it would be a cool support system for people like me who always “wait ’til next Monday” to start their diet.
